A Network for Funders in the Bluegrass State

Grantmakers of Kentucky was created to help foster connections and cooperation among foundations and between funders and policy makers, as well as to inform grantmakers about the possibilities – and potential challenges – that lie ahead in our state. Programming gives grantmakers the opportunity to connect with their fellow Kentucky colleagues, share best practices, discover new resources and increase the state’s grantmaking impact.

Annual Meeting

For the first time, Grantmakers of Kentucky is bringing its annual meeting to Elizabethtown – make plans to join us July 28-29 and connect with colleagues in this gem of a small town, conveniently located in the heart of the Bluegrass State. Register today for Forward Together: Collaborative Solutions to Challenging Times!

About our Annual Meetings: Each year, the Grantmakers of Kentucky gather for an annual meeting that gives participants the chance to hear from statewide, regional and national thought leaders while also placing a spotlight on innovative philanthropy taking place in our state.

Our annual meeting has also evolved into a chance to showcase Kentucky’s wonderful communities, and the people and organizations in them working hard to improve the lives of residents. We are proud to have visited not only our state’s largest cities, but also midsize and rural communities, highlighting innovation, ingenuity and inventiveness taking place on the ground.

For this year’s meeting, we are turning our focus outward to look at the ecosystems in which we operate and the external forces that are making an impact in the communities we serve. How do overarching trends – a decline in charitable giving, threats to our democracy – affect our role? How do nonprofit partners see us? What can we do about immediate dangers facing families and children, like gun violence? These questions lie at the heart of this year’s agenda. Along with hearing from many voices outside our field, we will also provide dedicated time to unpacking what we’ve learned and how it will shape our work going forward.

Polarization, partisanship, politicization – these three words have often been used to explain away persistent divisions in our communities that have gotten in the way of progress. But is this conventional wisdom correct? At this year’s Grantmakers of Kentucky meeting, we’ll explore this question and others as we examine how philanthropy can help communities find their way to common ground, common goals and shared progress.

What lessons are we learning as we grapple with a devastating pandemic? What will change as we assess philanthropy’s role in the fight for racial equity? How do we bring people together at a time when politicization and polarization shape opinions on so many issues? These are only a few of the questions that have arisen over the last 18 months. Over two days in Louisville, we will address these issues and others as we meet to reflect upon an unprecedented time for our sector and the Commonwealth.

Danielle Clore from the Kentucky Nonprofit Network and Ann Coffey from the Center for Nonprofit Excellence share survey data and their perspectives on the changing needs of the sector and the ways that philanthropy can support nonprofit organizations. Some of the questions discussed include:

How are nonprofit organizations being affected now versus earlier in the pandemic?
How is the sector planning for the future?
What do nonprofit organizations need from philanthropy going forward? What needs are more immediate versus long-term?

Speakers:

Danielle Clore, Executive Director/CEO, Kentucky Nonprofit Network
Ann L. Coffey, CEO, Center for Nonprofit Excellence
